Miles Redd, AD100 designer and the former creative director of Oscar de la Renta Home, share with Architectural Digest magazine some of the best tips how to decorate your home with velvet, a must-have noble material for any lavish home. And Room Decor Ideas made a compilation of the best of, just take a look:
“The thing that I love about velvet is that I can put a little tiny piece on a pillow or I can cover entire walls with it, and it will always look rich and cozy,” said Redd. lends a sort of softness and warmth to the room.
Less is more. Don’t think about the price. The truth is the velvet can make a statement in small proportions, like pillows or a simple duvet cover. It will add more drama without it feeling too much.
Balance the room with other materials. A plush shiny velvet is very easy-going with other materials, don’t go over-look. Combined with linen fabric for example, it brings a great balance to the room.
Choose a color that speaks to you. All colors look very noble in velvet, so it won’t be hard to chose from your personal taste. It will add a focal point with your favorite color palette.
Rethink those velvet curtains. “I love upholstering velvet on the walls,” Redd says. “It fits them well. I think it gives you a sense of luxury, but I’m not crazy about velvet curtains.” said the interior designer, and it adds: “However, I have used a very, very thin type of eco velvet on drapes for a project in Houston in the library.”
Let it age. Remember, your home must reflect your soul and history. It’s nothing wrong with aged velvet, it will look stunning.
So, what do you think about these decoration tips from Miles Redd? Are you considering to add an accessory or one single piece of furniture covered in velvet? I bet you will make your home more stylish than ever!
